“At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.”

Plato

I agree with Plato to some degree, but it’s undeniable that some of us might need a little nudging to awaken our inner poet. That’s probably the reason why you’re here, right? Before we begin, I’d like to preface that you definitely don’t need to be a poet to write a memorable wedding vow. You just need to learn how to channel your emotions and magically turn them into words!

This guide is for you if this feels like an area you could use some assistance in! Let us help you put your feelings on paper and create wedding vows that you and your partner will be happy to revisit for years to come!

Don’t Worry About The Length

When you are getting ready to write your vows, start with bullet points to get the foundation of what you want to express on paper. Don’t put pressure on yourself about how long or short your vows “should be”. Remember, it’s not about how long your vows are. What matters most is the essence and sincerity that comes with every line. Always choose quality over quantity since this is coming from your heart!

Speak From Your Heart

You don’t need to be Shakespeare to be able to convey your deepest, most sincere feelings for your significant other. You just have to be real‑-imagine it’s just you and your partner looking at each other and that there’s no one else in the room. Choose to be vulnerable and honest!

How did you feel when you first met them and how do you feel about them now? What do they mean to you? Jot it all down! Remember to start with bullet points!

Another thing you can do is use a talk-to-text tool on your phone! You could use that tool to get it out as a starting point‑-remember speak from the heart!

I Vow and Promise

As the name suggests, one significant requirement in a wedding vow is, well, to vow. What are your promises and intentions? How do you see yourself as a wife/husband to your significant other? I’m 100% sure you’re already thinking about being the best partner you can be, but it is important to only mention those that you’re sure you can keep! As a good rule of thumb, avoid using the words “always” and “never” because it is simply impossible for a marriage to be consistent! Declare your love and share in front of God, your family, and friends, what you will always work hard on in your marriage!

Literary Quotes

Have you ever read a book or listened to a song and you stumbled upon a line or two that struck you? If you feel like it’s a definite vow material (that you can also live by), there’s no saying ‘no’ to it! Include it in your vow! Bonus points if it’s a quote from a book/movie/song that your other half loves too!

Insert Some Inside Jokes

Nothing beats the joy of seeing your loved one laugh, especially on such a special occasion. If that’s something you want to see on your wedding day, add a couple of inside jokes to your wedding vows! It would be the perfect opportunity to throw in some punchlines that only you and your spouse understand; a definite way of making your ceremony as memorable as possible!

Share Your Personal Story

There might be some instances in your life, whether through the joys or pain when you said to yourself “This person is the one.” Don’t be afraid to share those experiences! Your loved ones would love to hear your unheard stories!

Disclaimer: you might hear a couple of sniffles echo through the hall but hey, it just means they’re moved by your story!

A poet or not, what we can definitely learn from literary geniuses is that inspiration matters. You definitely don’t need to mind the rhyming or try to mimic Edgar Allan Poe’s way of writing. All you need is a pen, paper, and the thought of your muse/beau.

We hope this was a helpful guide for you! We can’t wait to hear your vows!
