With fall weddings happening this—well—fall, soon-to-be-weds and their wedding planners are on full force as they shift their focus on the most important details of the wedding. And yes — I’m talking about the florals!
Blooms have been a very significant aspect of a wedding. Whether the celebration is big or a simple intimate gathering in the backyard, the flowers are never absent! This is why it is very important to know which florals would be perfect for your autumn union! If you’ve come here to find out which flowers would be in-season, you’re in the right place! Below is a short list I made for fall blooms that are perfect for your fall wedding!
Garden Roses
The beauty of garden roses is that there are a lot—and I mean a LOT of different variations. They come in many forms and colors which is a plus when it comes to following a certain palette! They bloom from spring to fall, although there are varieties that flower only once a year or once in spring and fall.
Orchids
A fun fact about orchids: there are a lot of different species of orchids! Here’s a hint, it starts with twenty-eight and ends with a thousand. That’s right, 28,000 species! Crazy, right? And because of that, there are tons of varieties to choose from! To name a few, there are Cattleyas, Dendrobium, Phalaenopsis, and Oncidium which are perfect for autumn palettes! Orchids typically bloom in fall, winter, and spring.
Chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemums have been around for AGES, and I am not exaggerating. It has been first recorded in writing around 3,000 years ago— just wow! Not only is it rich in history but chrysanthemums are known to have a lot of varieties, and that includes colors! Who’s to say you can’t find the perfect Chrysanthemum for your wedding? They start showing their beautiful colors in July until late fall!
Dahlias
Dahlias are more commonly known for their bulbous-shaped flowers but much like garden roses and orchids, they come in various colors, shapes, and sizes! In fact, they can be classified into 14 different flower types. If you want Dahlias on your wedding day, specifically having ball-shaped blooms in mind, you might want to go for Ball Dahlias, Pompon, Waterlily, or Anemone-Flowered Dahlias. Dahlias usually grow from mid-summer to fall, perfect for your autumn wedding!
Lisianthus
Lisianthus or Eustoma are rose-like blooms that typically grow from the months of June to September. Although there isn’t aren’t much variety of species as there are compared to roses, they are still as beautiful! They are known for their beautiful colors ranging from blue, white, purple, pink, yellow, and red, with some that are bi-color, similar to the images below.
Japanese Anemone
The anemone is a generally popular flower in the wedding industry but the most popular of its kind is the Japanese anemone. They usually come in white or pink, and they are fairly easy to take care of, which means your local florists love them! They are also very beautiful and delicate to look at! They flower from midsummer to November, just in time for autumn!
Carnation
Carnations have been popular for over 2 millenniums and with good reasons! They are stunning and rich in symbolism! They also come in different colors which is honestly enough reason to make them a part of a beautiful palette in your bouquet.
Pampas Grass
If you’re thinking of a boho fall wedding, your floral selection cannot be complete without Pampas Grass! They are huge, tall, and prominent, which makes them perfect for dramatic arrangements like floral arches, pillars, and chuppahs. Pampas grasses are usually in bloom from late summer to early fall and sometimes, through winter.
The list definitely goes on for fall flowers but their availability depends on when the wedding is and where it’s going to happen. It is best to consult your chosen florists to see which blooms would be perfect for your palette, date, and location!
